Handsfree Technolgy

Hands free is basically the use of equipment without or with very limited use of hands. They are convenient because they allow hands the freedom to do other things. For example, a head set allows an online gamer the opportunity to talk with his friends while his hands are free to play on with ease. For this purposes, i am going to focus on the use of hands free in our cell phone usage.
I believe the speaker phone was the first foray into hands free cell phone communication. The hand set had a microphone and a loud speaker in it which enable two things to happen. One was that it freed up the hands to drop the phone and do other things. The second thing was that it enabled multiple people to be heard in the conversation.
The next i believe is the mobile phone headset. It is a cable connected to the phone with a single earphone and a microphone. They are usually designed as ear buds or over-the-head devices. They are connected to the phone with a wire and as such do not give you that much range of freedom from your cell phone. They can be used to play music stored on the cell phone as well as provide freedom for your hands.
Most users however are moving to the wireless hands free devices. Blue tooth devices do not use cables but exchange information through short-length radio waves. They connect devices and exchange information between these devices such as mobile phones, laptops, video game consoles and other devices. They make use of little power and communicate through transceiver microchips in each device. Communication is only possible when both devices are in range. These devices are used basically to talk with people without holding the hand set but they also transfer files in byte data.

Roll-up Laptop

Although still just a concept, the roll-up laptop is an amazing idea. The idea that a laptop can be rolled up like a poster or a mat is just plain unbelievable.
The Orkin roll-up laptop makes use of a flexible OLED display. With this, it offers it the possibility to be
  • a 17 - inch multi-touch laptop
  • a 13 - inch tablet pc operated by a stylus
  • or a standup flat screen display.
This is truly the future of the notebook era. It is lightweight (about the weight of a mini-notebook), and comes with its power adapter and other features fitted in the carrying cannister with a convenient strap. So we can all forget about the MacBook air or any other tablet Pc because this will blow them all out of the way.
Flexible OLED (Organic light emitting diode) have substrates made of very flexible metallic foils and plastics that prevent and reduce breakage. They are used in cell phones and PDA's and are lightweight and durable. The possible applications of Flexible OLED's are enormous and mind-boggling. They can be used to make cell phones that conform to the shape of your hand and that is just one conservative idea. The roll-up laptop is just another one of the possible applications of this technology.
Other firms not just Orkin are looking into the possibility of making the roll-up laptop. Sony is looking into this not only this concept but also watches and mp3's with flexible OLED's. If and when this comes into the market, i am definitely getting in on this, and tossing this old but reliable thing i am using to publish this blog. I hope your mind is blown away.
